TECH GOLF RECRUITS HAVE ROANOKE TIES

Scott Rardin of The Woodlands, Texas, and Rusty Wylie of Knoxville, Tenn., two players with ties to the Roanoke Vally, have accepted golf scholarships at Virginia Tech, the school announced Wednesday.

Rardin moved to Texas with his family after his sophomore year at Cave Spring High in Roanoke. He won the Scott Robertson Memorial and Roanoke Valley Junior championships in 1988, when he was named the Roanoke Valley Junior Golf Hall of Fame's player of the year.

Wylie, the son of former Hunting Hills Country Club pro John Wylie, was an all-state player at Knoxville Catholic in 1988 and 1989. He will attend Tech on the Neviaser Scholarship. - Staff report
