PHILIP MORRIS WON'T GO TOBACCO-FREE

Stockholders of tobacco giant Philip Morris Cos. Inc. overwhelmingly rejected two resolutions Thursday aimed against the company's cigarette products, but supporters of the proposals claimed a symbolic victory.

"We feel we accomplished a great deal getting that kind of a vote," the Rev. Michael Crosby said after his proposal that Philip Morris get out of tobacco by the end of the century got 2.2 percent of the vote at the annual meeting.

Another resolution calling for a study of the impact of company advertising on teen-age smoking failed with only 3.5 percent support. - Associated Press
