CLINGEMPEEL WINS CITY ART SHOW

At the same event, the annual Perry F. Kendig Awards for artistic achievement and support of the arts went to Mona Black of Mill Mountain Theatre and to Lime Kiln Arts of Lexington.

A special award of recognition went to William Hubard, retiring president of Center in the Square.

The Kendig Awards are sponsored by The Arts Council of Roanoke Valley, which presents the art show in cooperation with the City of Roanoke.

The show is in the second-floor gallery of the Roanoke Museum of Fine Arts in Center in the Square. It was jurored by Ned Rifkin, chief curator for the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden of the Smithsonian Institution.

Clingempeel's winning entry was a series of three untitled landscapes. His medium was encaustic on masonite.

Six artists were singled out for $200 awards of excellence. They were M. Overton-Davidson of Huddleston; Craig M. Sisson and Jefferson J. Steele of Roanoke; Ed Dolinger of Salem; Rebecca Kaminski of Roanoke; and Julie Williams of Dublin.
