NEW YORK MAN GETS SIX YEARS FOR COCAINE

A New York man charged last year with bringing 109 grams of crack cocaine into Roanoke and intending to distribute it was sentenced Thursday to six years in federal prison.

Louissage Auguste, 27, was arrested in Roanoke on April 13, 1989, one day after he had been sentenced in New Jersey on drug possession charges. He faces an 18-month jail term on those charges.

Authorities seized the crack - which was packaged for sale in small plastic bags - from the room of a Roanoke motel where Auguste had been staying.
