Ralph Tally, a former Los Angeles Lakers draft choice and the 1987 Division II player of the year at Norfolk (Va.) State, was sentenced to seven years in prison for possessing and intending to distribute heroin. Tally is Norfolk State's all-time leading scorer with 2,246 points and a 20.8 average.

Bobby Unser, a three-time Indianapolis 500 winner, has been voted into the Auto Racing Hall of Fame. Unser, the only driver to win the 500 in three separate decades (1968, 1975 and 1981), retired from racing after his third victory.
