PARKER SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT AT VIRGINIA

Cornel Parker, a 6-foot-7 forward/guard from Norfolk, has signed a national basketball letter of intent with the University of Virginia.

Parker is a 1989 graduate of Maury High School, where he averaged 18.7 points, 10.6 rebounds and five assists a game as a senior. He also shot 57 percent from the field to lead Maury to a 24-2 record. Parker was named the Virginia Group AAA Co-Player of the Year and earned first-team All=State honors as a senior.

Parker attended Fork Union Military Academy during the 1989-90 academic year and averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds. - Staff report
