PSYCHOLOGY RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM PLANNED

An annual symposium where Wytheville Community College psychology students report on research projects conducted for their class will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Grayson Hall on campus.

Topics this year include taste perception, misconceptions, experimental fishing bait, the influence of physical characteristics in mate selection, how men's attitudes toward housework have changed in the last 20 years, tolerance of annoyance during study, legalization of marijuana, corporal punishment at home and in school, and safety questions on chemicals transported through this part of Virginia.

Student teams develop research concepts, get approval for them in conference with the instructor, devise approved methods of research and carry them out. The program, under way since 1985, won a statewide Excellence in Education Award at Virginia Tech in the fall of 1988.

Symposium coordinator is Donald Craft, associate professor of psychology. The symposium is open to the public.
