The performances will be in Italian, but supertitles will be projected over the stage. Artistic director Victoria Bond will conduct the full-pit orchestra. Resident director is Craig Fields.
Set in 19th-century Paris, the story concerns a group of student-artists, educated but indolent, who paint, struggle to survive and fall in love - all with youthful exuberance. The opera is based on the novel "Scenes de la Vie de Boheme," by Henri Murger.
Central in the cast is Mimi, the poor seamstress whose blown-out candle draws her to the artists' garret one Christmas Eve. Love at first sight between her and the poet Rodolfo turns to heartbreak as Rodolfo's jealousy and Mimi's failing health drive them apart.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $13 for students and senior citizens. They are available from the Roanoke College box office at 375-2333.
