BYRNE HONORED AT TECH AWARDS BANQUET

Amy Byrne, who this past season broke Virginia Tech's season scoring mark with 561 points, received the offensive player of the year award Saturday night at the school's annual women's basketball banquet at Jamerson Athletic Center.

Byrne, a senior from Brookfield, Wis., also earned the team's academic award. Last season, Byrne average 20 points and 7.2 rebounds and scored in double figures a school-record 38 consecutive games.

Other players who received awards were senior Dana Walvius, who was honored with the Ed Motley Award as most inspirational player and the sixth man award; senior Sandy Michel received the Dr. Richard Bullock Trophy as the most improved player; senior Missy Sallade, the team's best defensive player; and sophomore Latisia Brown earned the practice player of the year.
