The men occupying the Moss 3 coal plant slipped out under cover of darkness -
and melted into the crowd that had gathered outside. On previous nights, state
police had flooded the people with lights. But on the last night, the troopers
pulled out of the valley, leaving the miners and their families to celebrate
by the dim light of a Coleman lantern before they dispersed. Here, Duck
Stapleton (left) cheers with his friend, Jack Mullins, one of the occupiers.
