Strikers were defiant to the end, even as state troopers dragged them to
waiting prison buses (top and left). Union members complained that the
troopers treated them too roughly. Others went more willingly, such as the the
Episcopal priest escorted by a member of the state police's canine unit. But
the troopers had to remain on their guard, nonetheless, such as the time (top
right) they were forced to break up a fight on the picket line and wrestle
with a striker who had tangled with a non-union coal truck driver. color.
