(Page 5) The Pittston strike was a family affair, something union old-timers
couldn't remember happening before. But kids, it seemed, were everywhere
during the 11-month strike. In April 1989, students walked out of class at all
three Dickenson County high schools to protest the strike and walk-outs soon
spread to other schools in the coalfields. Come summer, kids walked the picket
lines with their parents and staged rallies, like this one at McClure in June
1989. color.
