CHALLENGER ADMITS HE LAGS BEHIND INCUMBENT

McKenzie Canter, who announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination in the 10th Congressional District Monday, admitted he was far behind in the race to unseat incumbent Republican Frank Wolf.

"We've gotten a late start," said Canter, who acknowledged that no Democratic Party leaders attended his news conference.

He said it "would be wrong" to let Republican incumbents Wolf and Sen. John Warner run opposed.

Canter, a tax and trial attorney from Fairfax County, said the voters deserve leadership on key national issues, such as health care, abortion and taxes.

He said serving the public involves more than assigning staff members to respond to letters concerning potholes.
