Charles J. Carner, age 91, died Monday, April 30, 1990, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mr. Carner was a veteran of World War I and was a member of Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he was former chairman of the board and Elder Emeritus. He was a fifty year member of Eggleston Masonic Lodge No. 309 A.F. & A.M. Mr. Carner was a retired conductor for the former Virginian and N. & W. Railroads. He was preceded in death by a son, Harold T. Carner. Surviving are Irene Dillon Carner, his wife of fifty-three years; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. and Geneva Carner, McCoy; two grandsons, James Curtis Carner, Humble, Texas; C. R. (Bobby) Carner, Jr., Blacksburg; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Carner, Blacksburg; one sister, Ethel Hammes, Roanoke; one half sister, Beulah Clowers, Phoenix, Ariz.; one half brother, Kenneth Carner, Pasadena, Calif. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 3, 2:00 p.m. at Centennial Christian Church. The Rev. Gordon Lee will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery where Masonic Graveside Rites will be conducted by Eggleston Masonic Lodge No. 309 A.F. & A.M. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Centennial Christian Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 427, McCoy, Va. 24111. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hoy-McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
