The after business-hours event is usually held the first Friday of every month at Century Square in downtown Roanoke, but because the Strawberry Festival, the Virginia Championship Chili Cookoff and the Class Reunion Party are also scheduled for the weekend, organizers have postponed the social for a week.
The new date is May 11.
A $1 admission will be charged. Beer, wine and soft drinks are sold. The admission proceeds go to charity as will any profit from beverege sales.
Despite rainy weather, about 850 people attended the first First Fridays at Five event on April 6. Although the event was moved inside the Market Building because of the rain and attendance was down, organizers were able to donate $850 to the Literacy Foundation.
The Roanoke Jaycees handle manpower for the event. After incorporating and electing an 11-member board in January, First Fridays organizers expanded the season from April through October.
The Showmen, a North Carolina-based beach-music band, will perform on May 11. Proceeds will go to Special Olympics.
First Fridays at Five will resume its regular schedule in June.
