George William Johnson, age 67, of 921 Bridge Avenue, died Tuesday morning, May 1, 1990, in the Waynesboro Community Hospital. He was born in Waynesboro August 23, 1922, a son of Alonza W. and Alice Terrell Johnson. He was owner of George W. Johnson Plumbing and Heating Co. and was a marine veteran of World War II having been in the first wave of troops landing on Iwo Jima. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rachel Johnson; two sons, George W. Johnson, Jr., Manassas; Ronald E. Johnson, Waynesboro; one daughter, Alice M. Fisher, Waynesboro; four sisters, Mrs. Russell (Vernell) Shiflett, Waynesboro; Mrs. Fannie Furr, Newport News; Mrs. Sarah Bunch, Verona; Mrs. Bill (Ruby) Clark, Richmond; three grandchildren. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Waynesboro Chapel of Etter Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Stanley Belcher with burial in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family requests that contributions be made to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, P.O. Box 1427, Waynesboro, Va. 22980. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home.
