HOME SHOPPING `SALE' NOT VERIFIED

Home Shopping Network spokesmen had no comment on last week's reports that the St. Petersburg, Fla., company is for sale. Multichannel News, a cable television trade publication, said the company has hired First Boston to investigate its possible sale, according to The Wall Street Journal.

After losses in the last quarter and all of 1989, the company has had gains this year. In the second quarter, its earnings more than doubled from $6.1 million to $12.8 million while sales increased from $207 million to $261 million. The price of its stock went up 1/4 after last week's report. - Staff report
