BUSH WON'T BLOCK FDIC CHIEF'S EXIT

The White House said Tuesday it would not resist the resignation of savings and loan bailout boss L. William Seidman, raising strong protests from the regulator's supporters in Congress.

Seidman, 69, a Reagan appointee, is chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., which guarantees bank and S&L deposits, and of the Resolution Trust Corp., the agency charged with disposing of failed thrifts. His term expires in October 1991.

Presidential spokesman Marlin Fitzwater denied a Washington Post report that Bush had suggested in a meeting with the regulator two weeks ago that this would be a good time for him to leave. - Associated Press
