SALTVILLE MAYOR BEATS WRITE-IN CHALLENGER

Veteran Saltville Mayor Frank "T-Bone" Lewis was supposed to be running unopposed for re-election Tuesday, but he drew a write-in challenge that failed to unseat him.

Lewis ended up with 377 votes while Frankie Swartz, the write-in contender, got 91.

In the race by five candidates for three available council seats, the winners were Michael Roberts with 502 votes, the most of anyone on the ballot; Garland Parks, the only incumbent seeking re-election, with 393; and Barry Loupe with 366.

The other contenders were newcomers Roger Allison, who got 126 votes, and Robert Cahill, 307.
