GALAX COUNCIL MEMBERS RE-ELECTED WITHOUT FIGHT

None of the four Galax City Council candidates seeking election to the four seats up for grabs Tuesday had any competition on the ballot, and three newcomers who drew write-in votes failed to give them any.

The voting showed incumbent Councilmen Roderick A. "Rod" Cox with 313, Clarence Mitchell with 347, and Glenn Wilson, the current mayor, with 343. But newcomer Larry Diamond topped the ballot with 370 votes.

Graham Parks drew seven write-in votes, Linda Lastinger got four and Ronnie Catron, one.

Parks, the only other newcomer who qualified to be placed on the ballot, withdrew from the race earlier. Only 17 percent of those eligible to vote cast ballots in the no-competition election.
