RURAL RETREAT ELECTS 2 COUNCIL NEWCOMERS

One of two Rural Retreat Town Council members seeking re-election Tuesday missed achieving it by just two votes.

Incumbent Garnett S. Miller Sr. had 93 votes, but unofficial returns Tuesday night showed newcomer Margaret Gwin Bollinger eking out a win over him with 95 votes. Another incumbent, Virginia Hankla Nase, garnered 126 votes and will return to council.

George Frank Reasor Jr., in his first council race, won the third available seat with 163 votes to lead the ballot. Andrew "Jack" Parks, the remaining newcomer in the race, got 46 votes, too few to win a council seat.

Mayor R. Douglas Humphrey Jr., who received 154 votes, was unopposed for re-election.
