MAYOR, INCUMBENT LOSE

Mayor Nancy Slusser was defeated Tuesday in her bid for re-election, according to unofficial results.

Slusser and incumbent Councilman Russell Smith Jr. both were defeated, receiving the lowest vote totals of the five candidates for three available council seats.

Winning seats on the council were Robert "Joe" Anderson, Robert Drewry and Johnny Wright.

The unofficial vote count showed Wright with 832 votes, Drewry with 773 votes, Anderson with 757 votes, Slusser with 528 votes and Smith with 457 votes.

All were running for council seats. The city's mayor is chosen from the council by council members themselves, Slusser said.
