STUART ELECTS MAYOR

Vice Mayor John "Mac" Deekens became mayor Tuesday in an uncontested election for the helm of the Town Council.

Deekens, 42, a personnel director at the Masonite Corp., has served two terms on the Town Council.

Willodean "Dean" Roberson, with two terms already under her belt, and Jack Williams, an employee of the Masonite Corp., were re-elected Tuesday.

James McHone Jr., an employee of JPS Elastomerics, was the leading vote-getter, pulling in 138 ballots out of the 154 cast Tuesday. Also elected were James Hiatt, principal of Patrick County High School, and Richard Prutting, who works in the scheduling department at the Masonite Corp.

James Bushnell was defeated in his bid for a council seat.
