CHRISTIANSBURG MAYOR, COUNCIL RETURN TO OFFICE

Mayor Harold Linkous and three Town Council members were re-elected without opposition Tuesday.

Linkous, a retired postal worker, won a second four-year term, leading the field with 468 votes. Ann Carter, who ran a veterinary business with her late husband, J.D., and completed his unexpired term, won her first full term with 456 votes.

Ray E. Lester Jr., a certified public accountant, won a second term with 425 votes and veteran Planning Commission Chairman Jack Via won a fifth term on council with 417.

The turnout was 484 voters, 7.7 percent of the town's 6,267 registered voters. Nearly 800 people voted four years ago, when six council candidates were on the ballot.

The order of finish that year was the same - Linkous, J.D. Carter, Lester and Via.
