The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning just after 6 p.m. Monday and urged residents to move to interior rooms on the lowest levels of their homes until the storm passed.
The funnel cloud was seen near the north part of the city about 6:25 p.m. following a cloudburst and reports of hail. Winds exceeding 55 mph were reported.
Several large trees were uprooted just outside the city limits when a tornado touched down briefly on the farm of Charles and Jim Combs, damaging roofs of barns, family members said.
