PATRICIA KLUGE FACES DRIVING CHARGE

Patricia Kluge has been charged with reckless driving after a wreck that left her slightly injured and caused about $6,000 in damage to her 1988 Range Rover, police say.

The accident occurred about 5:10 p.m. Friday on Virginia 627 near Kluge's Albemarle County home, said State Trooper J.E. De Ford.

De Ford said Kluge, 41, reported that she was eastbound when she swerved to miss a small animal. She said her car ran off the road on the right, hit an embankment and a culvert, then came back onto the road and overturned, De Ford said.

Kluge has made headlines in recent months because of her involvement in Virginia politics in support of Gov. Douglas Wilder, her appointment to the University of Virginia's Board of Visitors and her separation from her husband of nine years, billionaire John Kluge.
