ARTISTS, BOOTHS SOUGHT FOR PEARISBURG FESTIVAL

Artists, craftspeople and collectors are being sought for Pearisburg's sixth annual Festival Around Town June 16.

Space can be reserved by calling 921-3422 or 921-4449. Booths will be set up along Wenonah Avenue and in the courthouse square downtown. The festival will emphasize the Civil War era with historical activities and displays. An antique car show, old-time swimsuit contest and a frog-pouncing contest are among the scheduled events.

The frog-pouncing contest is sponsored by the Giles County Historical Society and uses imitation frogs.

A putting contest, volleyball tournament and fast-serve net contest also are planned, with proceeds going to downtown planting projects.

Bluegrass music groups will play and the Pearisburg Lions Club will offer pit-cooked barbecue.

Youth activities include a midnight splash party at the town pool with dance music, pizza and t-shirts available.
