MARTINSVILLE WOMAN ACCIDENTALLY SHOT, KILLED ON BIRTHDAY

A 28-year-old Martinsville woman died from a gunshot wound Tuesday evening while celebrating her birthday in a Henry County motel room.

Police say Jenny Scales was shot by Robert Glenwood Redd of Route 1, Spencer.

Investigations Lt. J.H. Kendrick said Redd accidently shot the woman after she threw an ice cube at him and struck him in the chest.

Kendrick said Redd was carrying a pistol from a dresser to a nightstand when the cold ice caused him to flinch and pull the trigger.

Redd, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, was freed on a $2,500 bond.
