DAVID DEW IS NAMED COVINGTON MANAGER

City Council has hired a new city manager, David Dew, who has been serving on an interim basis since Feb. 2.

The unanimous vote of council was reached following a two-hour executive session Wednesday.

Dew replaces ousted manager Mike Mahaney, who was fired by council in January.

A former employee of the city of Roanoke, who was on a four-month leave of absence to serve as interim city manager for Covington, Dew will be earning $47,000 a year plus benefits. Mayor Milton Humphreys said Dew's 14-month contract will allow for its expiration to coincide with the city's fiscal year.

Humphreys said Thursday that the city had received 103 applications for the position.
