In the boys' meet, Brod Bonds of William Byrd won three events and Alleghany edged Salem 114-113.
Bonds won the long jump, 100 and 200. Meanwhile, Brian Burke's 6-foot, 7-inch high jump broke was a half-inch better than a meet record that stood for five years. Paul Jordan's 40.1 run in the 300-meter hurdles knocked two-tenths of a second a standard that had been on the books 11 years.
Vicki Irving of Northside, who won the long jump and triple jump, set a meet record with a 34-10 3/4 triple jump.
Jefferson Forest's superior depth resulted in easy victories Thursday in the Seminole District track meet.
The Cavaliers outdistanced the field in both portions of the meet, winning the boys' competition with 111 points and the girls' division with 138 points.
Appomattox was a distant second in the boys' meet with 69 points and Rustburg compiled 94 points to take second in the girls' competition.
Angie Dudley captured first place in three events and Pam Blake won two of the sprints to lead Jefferson Forest to the girls' championship.
Dudley won the discus (101-1 1/2), long jump (16-9 1/2) and high jump (5-0). She also placed second in the 100 hurdles, third in the shot put and fifth in the 300 hurdles.
Cecile Organ finished first in two events to pace Altavista, and won two races for Brookville.
\ BASEBALL: Tommy Sheppard's two-run homer sparked Pulaski County to an 8-3 victory and a split of a doubleheader with Franklin County.
At New Castle, Chad Johnston slugged a two-run homer in the first inning to catapult Craig County (5-5) to a 6-1 victory over Natural Bridge in Pioneer District action.
\ BOYS' TENNIS: Cave Spring (11-1) clinched the regular-season title in the Roanoke Valley District with a 5-4 victory over Patrick Henry. District tournament play at River's Edge in Roanoke begins Monday with individual competition and concludes Tuesday with team matches.
Salem capped a 12-0 regular season with a 7-2 victory over Northside to clinch the Blue Ridge District title and the No. 1 seeding for the tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Salem Civic Center courts.
\ SOFTBALL: Back-to-back, five-inning no-hitters were tossed at William Fleming's field, one of them by the Colonels' Penny Smith, but Heritage still salvaged a sweep, 8-0 in the first game and 6-5 in the nightcap. Smith was victimized by six errors; the Colonels (1-12) had 11 in the doubleheader.
Lord Botetourt defeated visiting Alleghany 10-1 and clinched at least a tie for first in the Blue Ridge District's regular-season race.
Jenny Reynolds' RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning paced Roanoke Catholic to a 5-4 Blue Ridge Conference victory over Holy Cross.
Parry McCluer's Jenny Williams blanked Craig County 6-0 in a Pioneer District game at Buena Vista.
Brandy Hensley hit a two-run triple to spark James River to an 11-6 victory over Rockbridge in the Pioneer District.
Two of Nicole Basile's four hits were doubles and she drove in five runs, and Julie McGhee homered and had five RBI as North Cross crushed Stuart Hall 30-3 in a Blue Ridge Conference game in Staunton.
\ BOYS' SOCCER: Michael Eddy scored three goals to lead Patrick Henry to a 4-1 Roanoke Valley District victory over William Fleming. The Patriots (4-0-1, 8-1-1) outshot their crosstown rivals 30-5.
Mark Newell, Tim Hatfield and Shane Shephard scored as host Northside defeated Salem 3-1 in a Blue Ridge District game. Both teams are 7-3, 9-4.
At Mechanicsville, Brian Bowles scored two goals, including the game-winner, to lead Roanoke Catholic (7-2-1) to a 3-2 victory over Randolph-Macon.
\ GIRLS' SOCCER: Melanie Marshall scored two goals and had three assists as Lord Botetourt (3-6, 6-7) defeated Alleghany 6-2 in a Blue Ridge District game.
