DANVILLE MURDERER SENTENCED TO DEATH

William A. "Tweet" Saunders has been sentenced to die in Virginia's electric chair for fatally shooting a man in the back of the head during what authorities said was a cocaine deal.

"What happened was not my fault," Saunders, 20, said before he was sentenced Thursday by Circuit Judge James F. Ingram for the July 17, 1989, murder and robbery of Mervin D. Guill.

Testimony indicated Saunders shot Guill, 41, with a stolen gun while the businessman sat in his parked car. Guill was trying to buy cocaine at the time, according to testimony.
