HIGHLANDS GRADS TO HEAR BALILES SPEECH

Former governor Gerald Baliles will give the commencement address Friday at Virginia Highlands Community College's 21st graduation at 6:30 p.m.

Baliles, now practicing law in Richmond, was Virginia's attorney general from 1982 to 1986 and governor from 1986 until last January.

The college board will present distinguished service awards to Del. Ford Quillen, D-Gate City, and E.B. Yates, owner of Dixie Pottery, for personal and professional contributions to the school.

Virginia Highlands had its biggest enrollment ever during the fall semester, with 2,235 students. More than 220 will graduate Friday.
