FINCASTLE MAN DIES IN ACCIDENT

A 40-year-old Fincastle man was killed Friday when he lost control of the bobtail tractor he was driving and ran into a creek, state police said.

Wayne Mitchell Terry of Route 1 was killed instantly in the 7:45 a.m. accident on Virginia 655, north of Fincastle, said Trooper G.E. Ayers.

Terry was driving the tractor without a trailer on Virginia 655, which was wet and somewhat slippery, Ayers said. As the tractor began to go down a grade, Terry apparently applied his brakes and lost control of the vehicle, which started to slide.

He ran off the right shoulder of the road, through a guardrail and into a creek about 15 to 20 feet below the road surface, Ayers said.
