REEDY CAPTURES FIRST FEATURE WIN OF SEASON

All along, Tink Reedy thought he had a car with plenty of muscle. He found some good luck to go with it Saturday night.

Reedy led the last 22 laps of a 35-lap feature and won his first Late Model Stock points race of the season at Pulaski County Speedway.

In the other half of the Marshall Concrete Products doubleheader, Johnny Rumley won his third race in four starts here. Ronnie Thomas stayed hot on the trail of the leader for most of the race, but could not catch up. Reedy finished third.

"I needed this bad," Reedy said after the first race. "I've had the car to win here, but we kept running into bad luck. Now, hopefully . . . we can run in the top five from now on."

Reedy wheeled his Chevrolet Lumina into first by passing pole-sitter Jeff Agnew on the 13th lap. While Reedy was making his move, Thomas fell in behind and passed as well.

Thomas stayed on Reedy's bumper the rest of the way, but never could get past. Agnew finished third.

"I got under Jeff [Agnew] and we went into the turn a little harder than he wanted to go, and his car started washing on him," Reedy said. "When all four of his tires slid, that gave me the room I needed to get around him."

Reedy made his move a little earlier than he had planned.

"What I wanted to do was race with Jeff and the two of us gradually pull away and make it a two-car race," Reedy said. "But Ronnie Thomas was a little stronger than that and he was having none of that."

In the second Late Model race, which came about when rain washed out last week's schedule, the top six cars in the first race started in inverse order. Stanley Akers, who started on the pole, led the first eight laps before Rumley surged into the lead to stay.

The winners of each Late Model race collected $600 in addition to a $250 Road to Charlotte bonus and a $100 Champion spark plugs bonus.

Mason Ayers of Narrows outdueled Kenny Montgomery in the Street Stock race, Bo Howell won the Modified Mini, Kenny Prillaman won the Mini Stock and Garry Davis took the Pure Stock.
