Owner of Redskins marries for fourth time

Wedding bells have rung again for Washington Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke.

Cooke, 77, got married for the fourth time to Marlen Ramallo Chalmers. According to companions, she is the former best friend of Cooke's third wife, Suzanne Martin Cooke, whose brief marriage to the billionaire sportsman ended in an unusually bitter divorce.

Seen Saturday afternoon at the running of the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase in The Plains, Cooke and Chalmers confirmed they had married on Cooke's Middleburg estate. Chalmers, who friends say is in her mid-30s, then showed off her left hand, which sported a huge square-cut diamond ring and a wedding band.

\ At Fairfax, Va., Southern California took advantage of strong front court play from Brian Ivie to upset top-seeded Long Beach State 15-10, 12-15, 15-4, 15-6 to win the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship at the Patriot Center at George Mason University.

It was the fourth title for the Trojans, who won the championship in 1977, 1980 and 1988.
