JOHN ARMSTRONG, FORMER S&L EXECUTIVE, DIES

John E. Armstrong, a former president of Southwest Virginia Savings & Loan Association, died Monday in a Roanoke Valley hospital.

Armstrong was a member of the Roanoke Rotary Club, the Roanoke Chamber of Commerce, the Roanoke Realtors Association and the Virginia Savings and Loan League.

He served as vice chairman of the Virginia league in 1976. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and Hidden Valley Country Club.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Anna Dyer; his mother, Catherine M. Armstrong, all of Roanoke; and a brother, James Armstrong of Cabin Creek, W.Va.

A funeral will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
