CRIST, RALEIGH H., SR.

Mr. Raleigh Henry Crist, Sr., age 96, died Tuesday, May 8, 1990 in the Stonewall Jackson E.C.F. Mr. Crist was born June 1, 1893 in Stuarts Draft, Va., a son of the late David Henry Crist and Sarah Frances Walthal Crist. He was a life member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, charter and life member of the Lexington Lifesaving and First Aid Crew. Mr. Crist started his 47 year profession with VMI in August, 1918 as an electrician and musician, and was the longest living member of the VMI Post Band. He was made an honorary member of the VMI Class 1925 before his retirement in 1967 as Assistant Superintendent of Building and Grounds. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Estelle Hinty Crist; and a daughter, Annie Lee Crist Beatly. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Hillman Straub, Lexington; one son, Raleigh Henry (Trooper) Crist, Jr., Harrisonburg; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Bosserman, Lexington; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 1990 at the graveside in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. James B. Grimmer. Memorial donations may be made to the Lexington Lifesaving Crew. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.
