Dr. David Samuel Garner, age 91, of Roanoke, died in the Roanoke Methodist Home Sunday morning. Dr. Garner was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College (Ashland, Va.), taught school for seven (7) years and entered the Medical College of Virginia in 1929, graduating in 1933. He remained at M.C.V. for six years, two of which were spent as Director of the Outpatient Department. He served as President of the Roanoke Academy of Medicine, an elder in Second Presbyterian Church, Chairman of the Medical Section of American Life Conventions, President of Blue Shield of Southwest Va. for eighteen years, President of the Roanoke Rotary Club, and was on the staff of the local Veterans Hospital. Dr. Garner was associated with the local health department where he held a weekly clinic from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. for over forty years, and served in the Armed Forces during W.W.I. Surviving are his wife, Willye Mae Garner; niece, Mrs. Wilson Leggett, Richland, Wash.; and several cousins. Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Burial Park with Dr. William Klein officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Samaritan Fund, Roanoke, United Methodist Home, P. O. Box 6339, Roanoke, Va. 24017.
