ATWATER HOSPITALIZED FOR BLOOD CLOT IN LEG

Republican Chairman Lee Atwater, who is recovering from treatment for a brain tumor, has been hospitalized for a second time because of a blood clot in his leg, according to his spokeswoman.

Atwater, who was released from George Washington University Medical Center on Saturday for treatment of a blood clot in his left leg, returned on Tuesday for physical therapy, said Republican National Committee spokeswoman Leslie Goodman.

Examination indicated the problem may not have been cleared up, and doctors decided to readmit him for more medication for the clot, she said.

Atwater has taken radiation and chemotherapy for a dangerous tumor on the right side of his brain. Doctors have said it is common for patients in his condition to develop blood clots.
