FARMS DOING FINE IN VA., BANKERS SAY

Virginia bankers believe the state's agricultural economy is in good shape, the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond reported.

The study of farm financial conditions during the first quarter showed that farm land prices averaged $1,425 per acre, up from $1,277 per acre in the first quarter of 1989 and $1,214 per acre in the fourth quarter.

The report issued Tuesday said 73 percent of bankers predicted farm land prices would remain stable for the near term. The remaining 27 percent anticipated rising prices. - Associated Press
