LAKE CLEANUP PLANNED

The third annual "Take Pride in Smith Mountain Lake" Cleanup Day, will be May 19.

Winner of last year's national "Keep America Beautiful Award," this year's cleanup event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, with a free lakeside luncheon for all volunteers.

To date, more than 200 volunteers have pledged more than 600 hours to the one-day event. Twenty-five team captains have been assigned to oversee their efforts along the roadways and waterways of Bedford, Franklin and Pittsylvania counties.

Cleanup supplies will be distributed to team captains at the Smith Mountain Lake Partnership Welcome Center at Bridgewater Plaza today, beginning at 10 a.m.

On May 19, 16 trash disposal sites will be designated for cleanup debris. Among those receptacles available for the event will be the recycling bins off Virginia 122 behind the Moneta firehouse.

Volunteers may continue to sign up for the cleanup by contacting event planners at the Smith Mountain Lake Partnership Welcome Center, 703-721-1203.
