TWO TEENS HURT WHEN CAR HITS BIKE

The accident happened about 11:41 p.m. near the rain-slickened intersection of Norton Avenue and Hollins Road.

VonKuren Saunders, 15, of the 2800 block of Bluestone Avenue Northeast, was listed in serious condition this morning at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. His 18-year-old brother, Derico, who was operating the bike, was listed in stable condition.

The driver of the car, 30-year-old Peggy Elaine Martin of Vinton, was charged with driving under the influence, authorities said.

Police said today that the bike apparently entered Hollins Road from Norton Avenue in front of Martin's southbound car.

Derico Saunders was charged with disregarding a stop sign, police said.
