BOMB THREAT FORCES PLANE DELAY AT DULLES

About 150 people on an Eastern Airlines flight from New York to Miami were detained for several hours at a suburban Washington airport while federal officials looked for a bomb, authorities said.

Eastern flight 415 was diverted to Dulles International Airport about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, about an hour after leaving New York's LaGuardia Airport, after a flight attendant told the pilot that three Turkish women had received a package at the gate just before boarding the plane.

The plane landed here, where federal officials questioned the women and inspected the radio for about three hours, leaving the passengers sitting on the plane.

"A perfect stranger had given this radio to these women," Eastern Airlines spokesman Bob Hunter said. "The women did not know exactly who the owner of the radio was or who they were supposed to give this radio to in Miami. That's when the attendant became suspicious."
