CRAIG SCHOOL BOARD HONORS ACHIEVEMENTS

The Craig County School Board, during its May 2 meeting, recognized three county students and the School Board chairwoman for their achievements.

Carrie Crawford, chairwoman of the board, was cited for receiving a plaque from the Virginia School Board Association for outstanding contributions to education.

She has been active in that association and several other groups devoted to the betterment of public education.

Rebecca Overton, a student at Craig County High School, was recognized as a statewide winner in the Food Service Proficiency Event at the FHA-HERO Leadership Conference held recently in Williamsburg.

Being a state winner makes her eligible to compete in a national contest at San Antonio, Texas, in July.

The School Board also recognized Michael Reynolds, a senior at Craig County High, as the winner of the Roanoke County Regional PTSA Scholarship in the amount of $1,500.

Also recognized by the board was Richie Ponton, a junior at Craig County High, who represented Craig County at a Youth Leadership Conference held at the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge, Pa., in April.
