TWO-DAY BENEFIT SET FOR SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Sam's Wholesale Club will hold a fund-raiser May 18 and 19 to benefit the Barry Pendrey Scholarship Fund, sponsored by the Roanoke Sheriff's Office and Virginia Western Community College.

The event will be held during regular business hours both days at the Towne Square store. Sam's will offer various food items for sale, with all proceeds to benefit the scholarship fund.

There will be an auction May 19 beginning at 2 p.m., featuring merchandise donated by Roanoke Valley businesses. The Shrine Kazim Kops will sponsor a dunking tank, a portable jail for "arrests" and other activities. They will sell cotton candy, snow cones, funnel cakes and other items.

The scholarship was established in memory of Pendrey, a deputy sheriff in the Roanoke Sheriff's Office, who was killed in 1985 in the performance of his duties as a paramedic at the Roanoke jail.

Tax deductible contributions to the scholarship fund may be sent to P.O. Box 2551, Roanoke 24010. For more information, call 981-2580.
