LOCAL HORSES WIN RIBBONS IN BLUE SHOW

Local horses ridden by young people managed to stay in the ribbon on Friday despite the influx of entries for the Bonnie Blue National Horse Show at the Virginia Horse Center.

Taking second in the UPHA Challenge Cup Equitation was Waynesboro rider Jennifer Lunsford, and Kelly Blackwood of Roanoke earned third place. The top entries out of the 10 in the class were called on the rail for an additional equitation test.

In another hotly contested class, Lauren Decker of Staunton earned sixth place with the three-gaited saddle bred show pleasure horse Vain Prowler.

In the saddle bred three-gaited 14-17 junior exhibitor, Lunsford took fifth with Tweena Supreme, and Jack Richards of Salem finished fourth in the junior exhibitor roadster pony class.

The show continues today with a variety of classes and will finish up with a 7 p.m. championship program of competition.
