WYTHE ALTERS SCHOOLS' GRADUATION SCHEDULE

Wythe County's three high schools will change their traditional same-night graduations this year.

The School Board on Wednesday set graduation at George Wythe High School for May 30, and at Rural Retreat and Fort Chiswell high schools for May 31. Superintendent Robert McCoy said if the change works well, the schools may have their ceremonies on three different nights next year.

The board also set its 1990-91 school calendar. The year will start with a teachers-only workday Aug. 17, when they will hear a talk by William Perky of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Classes will start Aug. 22, with nine days off for Christmas, three days off for Easter, and seven extra days in case snow forces school closings.
