WYTHE SEEKS ENTRIES FOR ESSAY COMPETITION

A Wythe County bicentennial essay contest is seeking entries between now and October from students at three grade levels.

The theme for entries from students in grades 11-12 would be how an event or person from Wythe County helped influence national history; grades 8-10, a specific Wythe County person or place in history; and grades 4-7, a day in the life of a settler in colonial Wythe County.

Prizes in each category will be $200, $150 and $100 savings bonds for the top three essays and $50 bonds for the next three.

For kindergarten through grade 3, pupils may submit drawings of county landmarks in competition for two savings bond prizes of $100 and four more of $50 each.

Entries may be mailed or brought to the Wythe County Bicentennial Committee office, 272 W. Main St., Wytheville 24382.
