DOGS NEED LICENSE, VACCINATION PROOF

Dogs must be licensed in the New River Valley. Three jurisdictions - Radford, Montgomery County, and Pulaski County - sell reduced-cost licenses for dogs that have been spayed or neutered.

Proof of rabies vaccination is required. Dogs must have licenses after the first rabies vaccination.

Here's where to purchase a dog license:

Montgomery County: Treasurer's office, county courthouse, Christiansburg; Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 382-5723; $5 for males and females; $3 for un-sexed; by Feb. 1. (Blacksburg residents only: Treasurer's office, municipal building; Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 961-1105.

Pulaski County: Treasurer's office, Third Street courthouse, Pulaski; Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 980-3833; $5 for males and females; $3 for un-sexed; by Feb. 1.

Giles County: Treasurer's office, new county office building, Pearisburg; Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 921-1240; $5 for all; by Jan. 30.

Floyd County: Treasurer's office, county courthouse, Floyd; Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to noon; 745-2715; $4 for all by Jan 31.
