REGISTRATION REQUIRED IF YOU WANT TO VOTE

If you're new to the New River Valley and you want to vote in the next election, you have to register.

The valley has five registrars' offices - one each for the counties of Montgomery, Pulaski, Giles and Floyd and the city of Radford.

Persons must have lived in the county or city before they can register to vote. And they must register at least 30 days before an upcoming election to be eligible to vote.

Here are the locations, phone numbers and normal hours:

Montgomery County: County Courthouse, Christiansburg; 382-5741; Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pulaski County: 112 Washington Ave. (Dalton Law Building), Pulaski; 980-2111;Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Giles County: 507 Wenonah Ave. (Old Law Building), Pearisburg; 921-2802; Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Floyd County: County Courthouse, Floyd; 745-2299; Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Radford: 214B Tyler Ave. (Felix Books and Gifts Building); 731-3639; Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
